ROLES AND RESPONSIBILITIES OF THE COMMITTEE
The committee is the elected representative of all parents who use the services of Griffith East Pre-school Inc
Decisions need to be made after careful consideration and consultation with staff, advisers and other parents. It is a sound idea to be talking to other parents getting their ideas and opinions and making sure you include these in discussions.
COMMITTEE STRUCTURE
The Committee is comprised of:
- four executive positions – President, Vice President, Secretary and Treasurer,
- three general committee members
- Public Officer – the Office Admin is nominated for this position for consistency of record keeping
COMMITTEE GENERAL RESPONSIBILITIES
An effective committee member is someone who can work as part of a team but be independent in their views and the way they vote. At the same time, they must support the final decisions of the committee.
It is the responsibility of all committee members to:
- Participate actively in the decision making process by taking part in discussion, volunteering ideas, suggestions, opportunities, concerns and opinions,
- Ask reasonable questions to help make informed decisions,
- Act independently and not at the bidding of other people,
- Put the interests of the organisation above their personal interest,
- Declare any conflict of interest in any matter that could affect their income or other activities and be prepared to stand aside for discussion or voting,
- Use any information gained through the position properly and ensure it is in the best interests of the organization,
- Consider how any proposed action will affect the service and organization,
- Show respect for fellow committee members and staff,
- Be aware of the legal and financial responsibilities of the committee
- Actively promote the services of the organisation
- Bring a positive attitude and sense of humor to committee meetings
The committee as a whole is required to:
- Oversee the budget and financial management of the organisation ensuring the organisations ongoing financial viability
- Ensure funds are made available to achieve the agreed objectives of the organization
- be responsible for the overall performance of the services
- Review and monitor the organisations mission, policies and strategic directions (macro management)
- Plan for long term performance and adaptive capacity of the organization
- Ensure systems in place which enable the objectives of the organisation to be achieved
The committee is accountable to and ultimately reports to various stakeholders. These include the parents they represent as well as the government departments who provide funding to the organisation.
