Introducing Kandinsky
To help celebrate our preschool’s 40th Anniversary the children are doing an art work on a canvas to display and sell at our Anniversary fete in September.
We have decided to have the children do artworks inspired by an artist called Kandinsky. Kandinsky was the world’s first abstract painter. He painted to music and he didn’t see the colours, he heard them: “blaring crimson, burbling green, clanging orange and tinkling violet”. His paintings are based on geometric shapes and the colours “sing” because complementary colours are placed next to each other- shades of blue and yellow, purple and orange, red and green.
Today our in house artist, Anne Mills, did a little Kandinsky inspired art workshop for all 3 classes which included a slide show and a story called “The Dot” which was a great introduction to Kandinsky’s art as one of his famous quotes were “Everything starts with a dot”. This gave the children ideas on how to create artworks by layering paint and using geometric shapes and in the following weeks the children can use this new knowledge to create their own artworks.
