Griffith East turns 40!!!
GRIFFITH East preschool is celebrating 40 years this June.
The centre opened it’s doors in 1976 and director Suzy Tucker said there had been some significant changes since. “One of the earliest photos we have is of kids jumping off cable tyres onto a mattress,” Ms Tucker said laughing. “Today there is so much compliance it can stop kids from taking risks and learning, but we have turned that around a little and we will be working on creating a great environment into the future. Research has proved society is better off if we can put more money into early education and help kids to enjoy learning from an early age and these are the foundation years, we’re setting kids up for successful learning in their future.”
With so many of Griffith’s residents having passed through the preschool’s doors, staff said while it was strange to see them as adults it was wonderful to be able to watch them grow. “I’m used to it now, it’s nice to see what people are doing and where they have ended up,” Ms Tucker laughed.
